Illustrated Symbol
Select a computer symbol (*&^%$#@!?+=-_<>,./) and draw it inspired by another form. Create two drawings as seen in this example. One shaded with values (using pencils) and another using black & white demonstrating contrast (using pen, marker or printing ink). A relief print will then be created based on one of the examples. |
Placement Objects that are placed in the center of the picture plane or near center, will naturally become a focal point. Most of the time, a focal point that is not exactly center is preferred. By placing an object or element just off center, you can create a focal point through placement without affecting the aesthetics of the work.

Object Abstraction
Gradually abstract an object by drawing it three times. The first time should be a realistic drawing in pencil. In the second drawing, draw the values in a solid black using a marker, keeping the shadow. The third drawing should become more abstracted by spreading out the black shapes that made up the second drawing and combining the shadow in with the object. If a viewer were to see the third drawing only they should not be able to tell what the original object was = ABSTRACT |
