PHOTOGRAPHY A variety of works demonstrating your understanding of the principles of design. The principles of design (unity/variety, balance, emphasis, contrast, rhythm, repetition, proportion/scale, and figure/ground relationship) can be articulated through the visual elements (line, shape, color, value, texture, space). Any 2D process may be submitted, including graphic design, digital imaging, photography, collage, fabric design, weaving, fashion design, illustration, painting, printmaking, etc.
Manipulating the Face Create a series of at least 10 portraits that are not your typical portrait. Look at examples of manipulating the face. ALL 10 images should be related to each other and in the same theme.
Clever Prop Ideas Select one prop and use it in a series of photographs, 3-5.
Silhouette Take a photograph of a silhouette and place it on different backgrounds. This should be a series of three.
Reflections Your photographs should emphasize pattern being reflected in objects. Play with using different fabrics & different patterns reflected in different objects. You should not see your reflection in the image!
A Different Perspective Take a series of photographs of objects or people from either a worm's eye view or a bird's eye view.
Text in Art Experiment with using text in a composition using any medium or a combination of mediums that we have used in class. You can create contour drawings on top of a surface (text, maps, etc.), experiment with combining painting and drawing together, draw or paint back into a watercolor, etc. Use the Art Idea Generator for a theme if you do not have any ideas.
Transparency Capture 2-3 images showing transparency. Think of clear classes with imagery showing through the glasses.
Studio Series You will be working with studio lighting and composition for this series. You will turn in two AMAZING photographs for each theme (1.flowers or produce, 2.art supplies and 3.ink). Remember it takes a lot more than two pictures to get two incredible pictures. A good rule of thumb is one good photograph usually comes from every 50-100 shots.
